One HT10B Handles All the Odd Jobs on an Italian Hillside Orchard
Hillside Orchard and Residential Property Maintenance
Equipment: HIGHTOP HT10B 1-Ton Mini Excavator with Cab
Project Overview
This customer owns a hillside orchard and residential property in Italy. For years, he relied on manual labor and rented equipment to handle land clearing, trench digging, pipe laying, and brush removal — time-consuming, exhausting, and expensive. He needed a machine small enough to fit through narrow orchard rows, yet capable of being transported on his own trailer. Large excavators couldn't get in, and rental equipment was often unavailable when he needed it. In the end, he decided to buy a HIGHTOP HT10B mini excavator outright.
Customer Challenges
The customer's requirements were clear:
The machine had to be narrow enough to pass through orchard rows and residential side gates.
At 1-ton class, it needed to be towable on a standard trailer — no relying on others for transport.
Crawler tracks for good grip on hillside orchard terrain without damaging the lawn.
A cab configuration for safety and comfort — better than an open-canopy model.
Simple enough for the owner to operate himself, without a professional operator.
Common parts for easy maintenance, no waiting for imported components.
HIGHTOP Solution
What sold the customer on the HT10B was its retractable tracks. For transport, the tracks narrow to 930mm, allowing the machine to pass through standard garden gates and narrow orchard rows. Once inside, the tracks widen to 1000mm for stability during work. The customer said: "Before, I had to remove fence panels to get into the orchard. Now I just drive it in. Much easier."
The 60-degree boom swing is another key feature. In the hillside orchard, the customer can dig next to fruit trees or fences without turning the entire machine, then swing the arm to dump soil into a cart beside him. The 100kg rear counterweight keeps the machine stable when pulling roots or lifting a heavy bucket — no tipping forward.
The HT10B runs on a Koop 192F diesel engine with a maximum digging depth of 1745mm — deep enough for orchard fertilizer trenches, irrigation pipes, and residential drainage. The customer also added an auger and a grapple for drilling fence post holes and clearing brush. The quick hitch system allows attachment changes in minutes.
The cab configuration lets the customer work in rain and cold weather. He said: "With an open-canopy machine, I used to freeze in winter. With the cab, I can work year-round."
Customer Feedback
"These jobs used to require hired labor or waiting for a rental machine to be available. Now the machine sits at home — I use it whenever I want. The day it arrived, I towed it back myself on my trailer. Very convenient. The cab is practical — I can work even when it rains. I switch to the auger for fence post holes, the grapple for brush clearing — one machine does everything. My neighbor saw it and wants one too."

Project Results
After the HT10B went into service, the customer no longer depends on manual labor or rental equipment. Orchard fertilizer trenches, irrigation pipe installation, brush clearing, and residential drainage work are now done by one person with one machine. Because he can transport it on his own trailer, he occasionally helps neighbors with small jobs for extra income. The customer said the machine's greatest value is being "ready whenever I need it" — no waiting for rental availability, no asking for favors. In the long run, it's far more economical than renting.
