HT500-3 Mini Crawler Dumper Helps US Landscaping Company Streamline Backyard Renovation

Residential Backyard Renovation and Site Preparation

Equipment: HIGHTOP HT500-3 Mini Crawler Dumper

Project Overview

A small-to-medium landscaping company in a US city handles residential backyard renovations and site preparation projects. On a recent project, a single-family home needed a full backyard regrade — removing old turf and topsoil, bringing in new soil, and laying new lawn and flower beds. The challenge was not the work itself, but moving the material. The backyard was behind the house, and the truck could only park in the front yard or on the street.

Customer Challenges

The project required a material transport solution that could:

Move soil from the backyard to the front yard — short distance, but large volume.

Access the backyard without a large dump truck, which could not fit and would damage existing lawn and paving.

Replace manual wheelbarrow work, which was too slow and ate into profit through labor costs.

Protect existing landscaping and hardscaping from damage during transport.

Operate efficiently on soft, uneven ground.

HIGHTOP Solution

The company used a mini excavator in the backyard to dig and stockpile soil, paired with a HIGHTOP HT500-3 mini crawler dumper to move the material to the front yard one load at a time. The truck then hauled it away.

The HT500-3's 270L hopper provided efficient short-distance material movement. Its crawler drive system improved traction on soft soil and uneven surfaces where wheeled equipment would struggle. The maximum operating mass of 860 kg and compact transport dimensions of 1480×832×1344 mm allowed the machine to be relocated easily between job sites.

What mattered most on this project was ground pressure. The crawler chassis distributes weight far better than wheeled equipment, so the existing lawn and paving were largely protected. The company noted: "We didn't have to repair the lawn after the job. That alone saved us time and money."

The HT500-3 uses a Briggs & Stratton engine with EPA emission compliance — an important requirement for US residential work. The fully hydraulic steering system and separate hydraulic circuit for traction helped maintain consistent movement performance throughout the day. The foldable platform design allowed the operator to maneuver in changing site conditions.

Customer Feedback

"Moving soil from the backyard to the front used to be a two-man job with wheelbarrows. With the HT500-3, one operator moves it load by load, and the tracks don't tear up the lawn. The EPA engine means no complaints from homeowners. We finished this job faster, used less labor, and the yard still looked good when we left. This combo is now our standard setup for backyard renovations."

Project Results

The soil transport efficiency improved several times over manual labor, and the project timeline was noticeably shortened. Because the crawler dumper caused far less damage to existing landscaping and paving than wheeled equipment, repair costs were reduced. The company has now adopted the mini excavator + HT500-3 crawler dumper combination as its standard configuration for residential backyard renovation projects.
