The scorching summer is the peak season for construction projects. Facing the challenge of high temperatures, proper maintenance can keep your excavator in top condition. So, how can you ensure proper summer maintenance to keep your equipment running smoothly? Haituo Group has some tips for you! 1. Engine System: Preventing Overheating is Key 1. Coolant Inspection and Replacement: Ensure the coolant level is within the standard range. If insufficient, promptly add the same type of product and avoid mixing different types. It is recommended to replace the coolant every 500 hours and clean dust, cottonwood fluff, and other debris from the surface of the radiator to ensure efficient heat dissipation. 2. Engine Oil and Filter Maintenance: High temperatures accelerate engine oil oxidation. It is recommended to use high-viscosity engine oil specifically designed for summer use and shorten the replacement cycle. Replace the oil filter simultaneously to prevent debris from blocking the oil passages. II. Hydraulic System: Beware of High Temperatures and Contamination 1. Hydraulic Oil Management: Regularly check the oil level and quality. If the oil is blackened or contains bubbles, replace it immediately. Use high-temperature-resistant hydraulic oil and ensure the oil tank's ventilation holes remain unobstructed. 2. Radiator Cleaning: Clean the hydraulic oil radiator daily to prevent debris from covering it and affecting heat dissipation. If the oil temperature alarm is triggered frequently, check whether the cooling fan is operating normally. III. Electrical System: Waterproofing and Short-Circuit Prevention 1. Wiring Inspection: Focus on checking whether the battery terminals are oxidized (sandpaper can be used to polish them, followed by applying Vaseline) and whether the wiring harness connectors are loose. After rain, promptly remove any accumulated water from the control box and relay box. 2. Air Conditioning Maintenance: Clean the air filter in the cab, check the refrigerant pressure, and ensure operators can work comfortably in high temperatures. IV. Chassis and Structural Components: Preventing “Fatigue Damage” 1. Tracks and Idler Wheels: Sand, soil, and gravel can become lodged in the track plates, so they must be cleaned daily after operation and the track tension adjusted. Apply high-temperature grease to the idler wheels and track rollers to reduce wear. 2. Prevention of steel structure cracks: Metal expansion and contraction are exacerbated in high temperatures. Regularly inspect welded areas such as the boom and bucket arm for cracks and perform repairs promptly. 5. Daily Operation Recommendations 1. Avoid continuous operation during high-temperature periods: Avoid prolonged construction during midday (11:00–15:00). Shut down the machine for 10 minutes every 2 hours to reduce equipment load. 2. Storage precautions when idle: Park in a cool, dry location and cover exposed parts such as the exhaust pipe to prevent water ingress. “Three parts repair, seven parts maintenance”—proper maintenance can significantly extend the lifespan of your excavator. During this busy construction season full of opportunities, keep your excavator in top condition to tackle any challenge!

The small excavator we just bought or the small excavator that has been overhauled must go through a period of trial operation, which is usually called the running-in period. The purpose of this running-in period is to prevent the small excavator from early wear and tear, which can extend the service life of the small excavator. During the running-in period of the small excavator, the following matters must be paid attention to: Small excavators in the running-in period should hang a sign with the words "running-in period" in a conspicuous place so that relevant personnel can pay attention to the usage regulations during the running-in period. The sign can be removed after the running-in period. During the running-in period, the engine is operated at a reduced load of 20%-30%. The lead seal of the engine speed limiter must not be removed. It will be removed by a technician after the running-in period. Do not press the accelerator hard when starting the engine. When starting the engine at low temperature, preheat it for 20-50 seconds before starting. After starting the engine, run it at idle speed for 3-5 minutes. The speed and load can be increased only when the cooling water temperature rises to 40 degrees. The technical preparations before starting the engine, the technical requirements during operation, the technical work before stopping and after shutting down, and other operations must be carried out strictly in accordance with the general mechanical operating procedures or the requirements of the engine instruction manual. (5) During the first 30 or 50 hours of the running-in period, the small excavator should dig loose soil and fill the bucket with 1/2 of the capacity each time. The loading amount can be gradually increased in the next 70 or 50 hours, but it must not exceed 3/4 of the bucket capacity. At the same time, the operating speed should be appropriately reduced. (6) During the running-in period, you should always pay attention to the operation of each mechanism of the small excavator, check the working temperature of the bearings, gears and friction pairs in time, and observe whether the hydraulic system has leakage. If there is any abnormal phenomenon during operation, you should stop the machine immediately for inspection, find out the cause and eliminate it. (7) After the running-in period, the various parts of the small excavator should be inspected, adjusted and lubricated according to the operating conditions during the running-in period. At the same time, check the cleanliness of the lubricating oil in each gear box and the hydraulic oil in the hydraulic oil tank, and replace them if necessary. (8) Technical personnel should strengthen the technical management of small excavators during the running-in period. Before the running-in period, the various requirements and precautions of the running-in period should be clearly explained to the operators; during the running-in period, the use and operation of the small excavator should be checked, and the small excavator running-in period usage record form should be filled in in detail, carefully and promptly. After the running-in period of the small excavator is over, the record form shall be reviewed by the responsible technical personnel and included in the technical file of the small excavator.
